The T&T Coast Guard yesterday retrieved the body of a woman believed to be a Venezuelan national floating off Cedros.

This comes just days after a group of Venezuelan adults and children drowned in Venezuelan waters while trying to get to this country.

Sometime after midday yesterday, a fisherman spotted the body floating off Platform 14 in the Granville area.

The body was subsequently retrieved and taken to the Cedros jetty near the Coast Guard base.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the Coast Guard stated that it had received information from the Venezuelan authorities that 11 bodies, including four children, had been recovered from waters close to Guiria, a Venezuelan coastal town. Preliminary information was that they were aboard a vessel, My Memory, with 20 passengers that left Guiria on December 6. In response to reports that the vessel reached Trinidad but was turned back by the Coast Guard, the TTCG denied intercepting any vessels coming from Guiria on December 6.
